Here it is, though a little late this year, but it’s my reflection on the last year and goal setting for the next. It’s an annual tradition of mine, even if I don’t seem to religiously do it. There have been a few years I have missed doing this, but I promise I will try to get better at it (but will I?).
This year was one busy year for me. A lot happened, and while I could talk for hours about each, I’ll spare you the details and just provide the cliff notes version:
- I bought a school bus, which was a dream, even if it’s a smaller bus. And it’s becoming a business.
- NodeSpace expanded – we now are in a second data center location, RIC1!
- Speaking of NodeSpace, we bought our first IPv4 allocation. Saving more money than you know!
- Got involved with the ITDRC again.
- Started doing side-side-gigs.
- Wrote not one, but two books.
And that’s just the cliff notes!
As for my goals, did I complete them? Kind of. It was a bit of a year but I will say I hit most of them. I did do some more PHP development, but not as much as I would have liked. Sadly, I didn’t blog as much as I would have liked. Though I did “blog” a little more on my https://nightfox.tech (now https://nfxo.net), but I quickly shifted that back to here. I worked more on my Spanish. I’m a bit better at it, but Duolingo went full enshitification so I ended up quitting it (fairly recently) and I’m going to find something else so I can continue learning.
Like I posted last year (well, January 1 of 2024…), I’m going to post it again – my goals from 2012:
Here we go kiddies – the big shebang… the list of lists… the list that I am going to religiously stick to this year.
- Continue saving money and hit $XXXX in my savings account.
- By the end of 2013, either purchase or have purchased, or soon to move into a house.
- Cut out soda and fast food (and I am going to try the hardest to succeed!)
- Excel in my career to hopefully make IT Director or at least officially be recognized as a departmental supervisor/manager.
- Find a side project and get it running.
- Find an adventure everyday.
- Make at least 3 new friends and reconnect with old friends.
- Have a great year and make everything count – the smiles, the laughter, the tears, the anger, and the fear.

Many of these no longer apply (2, 5, 8), but many still need to be completed or work on (specifically 1, 3, 4, and 7). I’m going to basically keep the same goals as last year (and 2012) but with the addition that I want to do my first deployment with the ITDRC – not that I want to see disaster, but because I want to help and make a difference.
Despite all the bad, I hope 2025 is an overall positive year. Happy New Year!
